In the history of the Oscars only 3 African-Americans have been nominated for Best Director - all men: John Singleton (1991, "Boys N the Hood"), Lee Daniels (2009, "Precious") & Steve McQueen (2013, "12 Years a Slave"). This year, although "Selma" was nominated for Best Picture, it's director Ava DuVernay was passed over. This is rightly eliciting much criticism on the Internet.
