In November 2004 the farmers and sugar mill workers of Hacienda Luisita went on strike to demand just wages and benefits and to fight for the land that
was promised to them by the Philippine government decades earlier. Two weeks later their struggle for justice was met with brutality by the US supported Armed Forces of the Philippines. A massacre ensued leaving 7 dead and over 100 wounded.
Sa Ngalan Ng Tubo, "In the Name of Sugar," is a film about the history of the struggle for land and labor rights in the Philippines and the workers at Hacienda Luisita. Followed by a discussion with a NISPOP member who recently visited the picket line at Hacienda Luisita.
