Aug. 7: 8th Annual Black August benefit concert

8th Annual Black August benefit concert
Black August: A celebration of Hip Hop and our Freedom Fighters is a project of the Malcolm X Grassroots Movement, which supports the global development of Hip Hop culture through exchanges between international youth communities where Hip Hop is a vital part of the culture, and by promoting awareness of the social and political issues that affect these communities. Our goal is to bring culture and politics together and help them evolve into a unique Hip Hop consciousness that informs our collective struggle for a more just, equitable and human world.

This year's Concert will feature Mos Def and Smif-N-Wessun and highlight AIDS in Africa and the Diaspora. Black August will also continue to bring attention to political prisoners in the Americas, discussing how activists have been jailed because of their political activities directed toward ending racial and economic oppression.
This year our concert is dedicated to fallen Freedom Fighter Kuwasi Balagoon.
