(August 6. 1945. This is one of the six photographs recording the disaster of Hiroshima. A precious photograph taken only three hours or so after the explosion.)

Join in co-creating a Day of Peace to commemorate the exact moment of the Hiroshima bombing (August 5th 7:15pm in NYC August 6th 8:15am in Japan)

TRANSFORM A REMEMBRANCE OF HORROR INTO A REDEDICATION TO LIFE!
PRAY/MEDITIATE FOR PEACE
CREATE AN EVENT
READ A POEM
SING A SONG
HAVE YOUR VOICE HEARD FOR PEACE
LIGHT A CANDLE at the exact moment of the Hiroshima bombing

We will be commemorating this event in New York City by first holding a candlelight and gong ceremony with Japanese music at the New York Buddhist Church (331 Riverside Drive, between 104 and 105th Streets) starting at 6:30 pm. Outside the Church is a statue that survived the bombing at Hiroshima. A gong will be rung at 7:15 pm, the exact moment of the bombing.
This will be followed by a candlelight march up Riverside Drive to The Riverside Church at 490 Riverside Drive (120-122nd Street). There, a series of performances with Pete Seeger, Peter Yarrow & others will commence at 8 p.m. following an interfaith ceremony.

The Riverside Church covers a two block area extending from Riverside Drive to Claremont Avenue and between 120th Street (also known as Reinhold Niebuhr Place) and 122nd Street. The Claremont Avenue entrance (91 Claremont Avenue) is open daily from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.

If you would like to get involved, either as a volunteer, a coordinator, a performer or an attendee, we are having a series of planning meetings to which all are invited.

This event is co-sponsored by the Buddhist Church, Riverside Church and Arts for Peace.
