Karl Rove: The Worm Turns

Karl Rove

Although I think it's probably much better for us to have Karl Rove to kick around while he twists in the wind and remains in Bush's White House, the skirmishing around his ass is wonderful. I have been saying for sometime that the hubris of the right-wing ship-of-state would sink it. This seems to me to be the first stage of the right-wing Titanic. Here's what one commentator in the Seattle Times has to say about the current Rove troubles

WASHINGTON - Republicans mounted an aggressive and coordinated defense of Karl Rove yesterday, contending the White House's top political adviser did nothing improper or illegal when he discussed a covert CIA official with a reporter.
With a growing number of Democrats calling for Rove's resignation, the Republican National Committee (RNC) and congressional Republicans sought to discredit Democratic critics and knock down allegations of possible criminal activity.
"The angry left is trying to smear" Rove, said RNC Chairman Ken Mehlman, a Rove protege. For rest of article

For example, check out right-wing knee jerk Michael Goodwin's take on the situation:
The intense grilling that White House reporters inflicted on presidential spokesman Scott McClellan Monday over whether political guru Karl Rove leaked the name of a CIA operative was no ordinary give-and-take. It was a hostile hectoring that revealed much of the mainstream press for what it has become: the opposition party.
Heaven forefend! An opposition press emerges after six years of Bush/Rove disasters. Amazing. Actually, if you have had any doubts about the obsequiousness of the mainstream press, Goodwin's whole column is an eye opener.
